About this event
The Teen Wheel Throwing Camp at Tooth and Nail Studio offers a unique opportunity for teens to explore the art of pottery in a supportive and creative environment. Over four days, participants will learn essential wheel throwing techniques, from centering clay to adding decorative touches. The camp is designed to be both educational and fun, with each teen crafting multiple pieces to take home.
Led by experienced instructor Ang Van Den Eeden, the camp provides a comprehensive introduction to ceramics. Ang's background in ceramics and sculpture ensures that students receive expert guidance throughout the process. The studio's intimate setting allows for personalized attention, making it an ideal place for young artists to develop their skills and express their creativity.
From the organizer
This camp introduces teens to the essential skills of wheel throwing in a real ceramic studio. Students will learn how to center clay, open forms, and pull walls while creating functional pottery such as cups, bowls, and small plates. Campers will learn trimming techniques and how to add handles using slip and score. We’ll also explore simple surface decoration techniques, including carving and sgraffito. Each teen will select glazes for their pieces, which will be professionally glazed and fired for a finished, food-safe result. Finished pots will be ready for pickup 3 weeks after camp. Each camper can expect to finish 6-12 pieces that they are truly proud of.

Part II · The feel
The details organizers don't always put in the description — pulled from the room, the crowd, and what people remember afterward.
Library rules. Whispers and a calm body — this is not a talking-out-loud room.
Sweet spot is 3–6 people actively doing the thing together.
