Family and Friends Jigsaw Puzzle Time
Jigsaw puzzle time at Villard Square Branch, May 30 from 2 to 4 PM. Bring family and friends for some light refreshments.
5-day raft-building and pond science camp for kids 6–11 at Lynden. Sail your raft on Friday. July 13–17.
Pond Voyage takes aquatic insect science as its launch point: how do water striders manage surface tension? How do diving beetles propel themselves? Campers 6–11 spend five full days (9am–4pm) applying those principles to build floating sculptures and, ultimately, full-sized rafts they sail across the pond on the final day. Along the way, they visit all of Lynden's ponds, keep pond journals, and learn batik-dyeing to make bandanas and nautical flags. Physically active, science-connected, and genuinely memorable.

It's a great chance to explore different areas of the library and engage with local museums and centers. Arrive early to register for the summer reading program.
For aquatic insects, understanding buoyancy, surface tension, and propulsion is key to survival. We will adapt this knowledge as we construct floating sculptures, prototypes for the full-sized rafts that will carry us across the pond at the end of the week. We'll visit the different ponds at Lynden, recording our experiences in pond journals, and learn batik-dyeing to make colorful bandanas and nautical flags.
