The details

About this event

Crafting Connections at the Bay View Branch Library offers a delightful opportunity to dive into the art of Kumihimo, a traditional Japanese technique for creating beautiful friendship bracelets. This monthly event is designed for older adults who are interested in both crafting and cultural learning. With all materials provided, participants can focus on the joy of creation and community.

The program coincides with Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, adding a layer of cultural appreciation to the crafting experience. It's a relaxed, welcoming environment where you can meet new people and enjoy a hands-on activity. With limited spots available, it's a good idea to register in advance to secure your place.

From the organizer

A monthly craft program for older adults. Come for the crafts, stay for the community! Celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month by creating a beautiful friendship bracelet using a Kumihimo disc. Kumihimo is the Japanese word for “gathered thread”. We will be learning about the history of the art while making our own unique friendship bracelets using this technique. All supplies are included. Program limited to 15 participants. Register in person or online at mpl.org/calendar. Crafting Connections meets monthly on Mondays from 1:00-3:00pm at the Bay View Branch Library on the following dates: May 4th, June 8th, July 6th, and August 3rd.
