About this event

Black Birders Week at Havenwoods State Forest offers a unique chance to connect with nature and celebrate Black joy in the outdoors. The event kicks off with a bird walk, perfect for both seasoned birders and newcomers. Afterward, engage in hands-on activities like making bird feeders and navigating a bird migration obstacle course.

This event is a collaboration between the Zoological Society of Milwaukee, Havenwoods Neighborhood Partnership, and the BIPOC Birding Club of Wisconsin. It’s a great opportunity to learn about the contributions of Black birders and scientists while enjoying a day out in the fresh air. Binoculars are available, so all you need to bring is your enthusiasm.

Join the Zoological Society of Milwaukee, Havenwoods Neighborhood Partnership and BIPOC Birding Club of Wisconsin for feather-filled family fun and to celebrate Black Birders Week! Black Birders Week was started in 2020 to celebrate Black joy in nature. Enjoy a bird walk at 10 a.m. and stick around to make bird feeders, fly through a bird migration obstacle course and learn about famous Black birders and scientists. Binoculars will be available in the nature center.
