Victory Garden Initiative is a Milwaukee-based nonprofit organization dedicated to ending food insecurity by empowering communities to grow their own food in the Harambee neighborhood and beyond.
Located at 249 E Concordia Avenue, Victory Garden Initiative operates a free organic urban farm where residents can harvest nutritious produce to feed their families. The organization creates an inclusive, welcoming environment where gardening becomes a tool for self-sufficiency and community empowerment, with no cost barriers to participation. Their Saturday seasonal food distributions offer free organic produce to local residents, helping reduce weekly grocery costs while building neighborhood connections.
Beyond the urban farm, VGI runs several complementary programs including their Youth Education Program (YEP!), which builds self-confidence and food independence in young students, and the Victory Garden Blitz initiative that delivers and installs garden beds throughout the greater Milwaukee area. The organization also offers Move Grass classes and maintains office hours Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., making it easy for community members to get involved through volunteering, donations, or participation in their mission to create a socially just, environmentally sustainable food system for all.
