Cream City Swing Dance is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building an inclusive community through Lindy Hop and swing era dancing in Milwaukee.
Founded in 1998 by Lars and Patty Russell, Cream City Swing has grown from a small group of enthusiasts into an established fixture in Milwaukee's dance scene, having organized multiple Lindy Exchanges and operated from various venues including BayView and the Historic Pabst Brewery. The organization is deeply committed to honoring the Black American roots of jazz and swing dance, fostering a welcoming environment where dancers of all skill levels can learn and celebrate together. After reopening in 2022 following the pandemic, they now offer weekly programming at the historic Falcon Bowl in Riverwest.
Classes are affordable and accessible, with beginner-friendly Lindy Hop 101 sessions and intermediate Lindy Hop 200 classes offered in series format at $10 per class or $30 for a four-class series. In addition to structured lessons on Monday evenings, Cream City Swing hosts a free social hour immediately following classes where dancers can practice and celebrate together, with donations appreciated. The welcoming vibe and emphasis on community support make it an ideal place for both newcomers curious about swing dancing and experienced dancers looking to connect with others who share their passion.
