Build and paint a Talavera-style birdhouse with your family — a colorful morning of creativity.
Part I
About this event
This family-friendly workshop at Latino Arts, Inc. offers a unique opportunity to engage with the colorful tradition of Talavera art. Participants will not only construct and paint their own birdhouses but also delve into the history of this vibrant folk art. It's a perfect way to spend a morning with your kids, fostering creativity and learning together.
The workshop is designed for families, encouraging parents and children to collaborate on their artistic projects. With a focus on both construction and decoration, attendees will leave with a beautiful birdhouse and a deeper appreciation for the cultural roots of Talavera. Just remember, children under 16 need to be accompanied by an adult.
From the organizer
Celebrate Summer with this family friendly workshop! Construct and paint your own Talavera-style birdhouse to take home! Families will learn construction and painting techniques as they build and decorate birdhouses featuring Talavera designs. They will also explore this traditional folk art, including its history and evolution—from its roots in the Middle East and Spain to its place in the ever-evolving folk-art traditions of Mexico and Latin America. These workshops are designed for families. We encourage parents and children ages 6-16 to register to participate together. A parent must accompany all children under the age of 16, and no sign-ups will be accepted for children younger than 16 to attend alone.

Pro tips
Bring an old shirt or apron for your child to wear during the painting session. The paint can be messy, and it's not washable from clothes.
Who'll Be There
Families with children aged 6-16, particularly those interested in arts and crafts. Expect parents, guardians, and children participating together, likely from the local community with an interest in cultural activities.
