About this event

The Planting for the Birds Seminar at Schlitz Audubon Nature Center offers a unique opportunity to learn about creating sustainable bird habitats. Led by Drew Shuster, the center’s Director of Conservation, this event provides both an educational presentation and a guided tour of the center’s newly enhanced outdoor areas. Attendees will gain practical knowledge on selecting native plants that support local bird species.

This seminar is perfect for anyone interested in birding or gardening, offering insights into the natural landscape that can be applied to your own backyard. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or a curious beginner, you’ll leave with valuable tips and inspiration to make your space more inviting for feathered friends.

From the organizer

At the Center, we continuously work on land restoration to provide sustainable habitats for the diverse array of birds that live here. In this seminar, learn what attracts birds in a natural landscape and how you can replicate these features in your own spaces. Starting with an indoor presentation, we will guide you through identifying key native plant species that best support birds. Afterwards, we will visit the newly enhanced Feeder Grove Observation Area and the Courtyard Pavilion to look at what other habitat features are needed to support our avian friends.
