About this event
Beethoven’s Missa solemnis is a masterpiece that transcends time, offering a deep spiritual experience for both performers and listeners. Conducted by Ken-David Masur, this performance is particularly special as it marks his final appearance as Music Director of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. The concert also celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Milwaukee Symphony Chorus, adding to the event's significance.
The Bradley Symphony Center provides an ideal setting for this grand performance. The addition of Choeur USJ’s “Docu-Concert” enriches the experience with commentary and historical context, making it more engaging. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or new to Beethoven's work, this concert promises a memorable evening of music and reflection.
From the organizer
“My chief aim was to awaken and permanently instill spiritual feelings not only in the singers but in the listeners,” said Beethoven of his immense and moving Missa solemnis (“Solemn Mass”). Observing the structure of a traditional Catholic mass, Missa solemnis is a vibrant paean to faith but also to humanity. This concert concludes Music Director Ken-David Masur’s final season as well as the Milwaukee Symphony Chorus’ 50th anniversary celebration. As Beethoven penned at the top of his score: “From the heart: may it go to the heart.”
