5-day foraging and art camp for kids 6–11 at Lynden. Harvest plants, make tea, fire clay, sew bags. July 27–31.
Forage teaches kids 6–11 what it means to be in reciprocal relationship with the land. Over five full days (9am–4pm), campers range Lynden's 40 acres to gather materials and practice honorable harvesting—taking only what's needed, leaving what isn't. Collaborator Alyx Christensen of Open Kitchen guides campers in making wild-plant tea from what they've collected. They also dig local clay to make ceramic beads, pit-fired in a campfire before a bead exchange, and dye and sew foraging bags to carry materials throughout the week.

Foraging helps us discover the reciprocal relationship between ourselves and other living things. Using materials collected from the garden, we will practice honorable harvesting to collect wild edibles to make our own tea; dig local clay to make ceramic beads that we'll pit-fire in a campfire for a bead exchange. We'll also dye and sew our own foraging bags.
