Layton Lecture: Gertrude’s Wisconsin Friends

Join Robert Cozzolino, independent curator and art historian for a conversation about how Gertrude Abercrombie’s friendships with artists in Wisconsin—such as Dudley Huppler, Karl Priebe, and John Wilde—enriched her life and deepened their collective creativity. Drawing inspiration from the exhibition Gertrude Abercrombie: The Whole World is a Mystery, Cozzolino will explore how Abercrombie interacted with this distinctive group of artists and how their creative exchanges shaped and reflected the alternative visual worlds they constructed in response to American Regionalism. Presented in connection with the Layton Art Collection, this program highlights the collection’s commitment to showcasing artists who challenge conventional narratives and expand the boundaries of American art.
