About this event
The 73rd Annual Awards Dinner is a cornerstone event for Milwaukee's history buffs and community leaders. Hosted by the Milwaukee County Historical Society, this gathering at the elegant Pfister Hotel celebrates those who've made lasting impacts on preserving the city's rich past. With awards like the Witness to History and the Frederick I. Olson Historic Preservation Award, the evening highlights the dedication of individuals and organizations to Milwaukee's heritage.
This isn't just an awards ceremony; it's a night of community and celebration. Attendees can expect a formal dinner, a chance to mingle with civic leaders, and a silent auction supporting the Historical Society's mission. The Pfister Hotel's historic setting adds to the evening's charm, making it a memorable occasion for all who attend.
From the organizer
Since 1953, the Milwaukee County Historical Society has recognized individuals, community organizations, and businesses that have made significant contributions to preserving and promoting local history. In 2003, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of our awards program, we introduced the Anniversary Accolades, honoring milestones like the 50th, 75th, 100th, 125th, 150th, and 175th anniversaries of local businesses, organizations, schools, and universities. Our awards span a wide range of contributions. The Witness to History Award honors individuals who have shaped and documented Milwaukee’s history. The Courtland R. Conlee Community Service Award celebrates those who have made lifelong contributions to preserving local history. The Frederick I. Olson Historic Preservation Award acknowledges the preservation efforts of Milwaukee’s historic architecture. The Gambrinus Prize recognizes exceptional books on Milwaukee history, while the Dan Emmer Recognition Award highlights the invaluable efforts of volunteers and organizations that support the Society’s work. On Thursday, May 14, 2026, at the historic Pfister Hotel, more than 500 community members, civic leaders, and history enthusiasts will gather to honor those shaping Milwaukee County’s story, past and present. The evening will feature a lively awards program, elegant dinner and dessert, and a silent auction, all in support of the Historical Society’s mission to preserve and share the stories that define our county.
Who'll Be There
A mix of community leaders, local historians, members of the Milwaukee County Historical Society, and individuals interested in local history. Expect an older demographic, likely 40s and up, as well as families and long-time residents.
