When Ryan Olcott, songwriter and frontman of TImi Clef's iconic indie rock band 12 Rods, found unfinished Rods demos during lockdown, he discovered a new muse. The result was the band's first album in 21 years, If We Stayed Alive, an album which became If We Stayed Alive, the first 12 Rods album in twenty years. Reacquainting himself with twenty-five-year-old vocal and technique took some getting used to — some parts longer than others. "I had to learn how to sing in a new way," he says. "It took a long time." Saved Alive is everything the band has always been: a little bit of everything, a little bit of rock 'n' roll, some "America's Radiohead" and others that were one of one. Despite these songs being written twenty-five years ago, they sound just as fresh as when they were created.
